As of today, eFootball.Pro’s esports football competition is adding a new competitor to its list: Boavista FC. The Portuguese outfit is joining already confirmed sides representing FC Barcelona, Schalke 04, AS Monaco and Celtic FC. Boavista—like the other four—is fielding a team of professional video game players to compete in the eFootball.Pro League.
“The presence in this competition reinforces the focus on youth, innovation and technology that we want to promote, not only in esports but throughout the Club,” said Boavista FC president, João Loureiro., “Like our opponents, we seek to innovate with this competition that brings real and virtual football closer together in another international presence of the Club that we are sure will please our fans."
"By signing Boavista, we are reinforcing the international flavour of our competition," said Gerard Piqué, the founder and president of eFootball.Pro. "Surely, their presence in the league will not leave anyone indifferent."
Masami Saso, the president of Konami Digital Entertainment B.V., said, “It is an honour and a true pleasure for KONAMI to work with organisations such as eFootball.Pro and Boavista FC. We look forward to working together to drive esports forward and we anticipate many exciting sporting moments to come.”
Five teams have already been announced, and others are soon to be unveiled. Together, they will compete playing KONAMI’s Pro Evolution Soccer video game, with the winning club to be crowned as the world’s best. The league’s virtual matches will take place at the eFootball.Pro Arena, which was unveiled in October.
